"When I was a young girl in England there was a small, child-size cottage on our property that we called a Wendy House. It was a magical place for me, because it was my own, and everything in it allowed me to be creative and imaginative in a space designed just for me. I spent the days playing inside it, and one evening I even tried sleeping in it before my vivid imagination got the better of me!

When my own children were born I searched for something similar, and found nothing to compare. What passed for children’s cottages were unfinished wooden sheds or plastic houses, both completely devoid of magic. So I built my own. I designed an 8’ x 10’ Wendy House with finished walls, arched ceilings, wooden floors, paned windows, a Dutch Door, and a porch complete with railings and lattice – all perfectly proportioned for a child’s perspective, but built with room to grow. My contractor constructed the prototype in my garden with the same quality and attention to detail I would expect in my own home. And I then hand-painted every inch of the house – faux wallpaper, wainscoting, a hand painted floor, and a chalkboard-fireplace – until it was every bit as magical as I had imagined.

I then set about looking for child-size furniture as original and imaginative as the Wendy House environment itself. Again, I found the available offerings severely lacking in creativity, quality, and affordability. So I created my own. I started with the highest quality hardwood children’s furniture, hand-crafted the old-fashioned way in New England. I developed a range of patterns and products to inspire both young and old alike. Tables, Chairs, Rockers, Youth Chairs, Benches, Stools, all child-sized, and all very special.

Each piece we produce is hand-painted to order with love and a remarkable attention to detail. No stencils or mass-produced touches here. From broad country stripes to the last whisker on a mouse’s face, every detail is considered and produced with my brush. The piece is then varnished to stand up to the demand of little hands and big imaginations. And from there, we deliver or ship our items anywhere in the world.

As friends and acquaintances began requesting products for their own children, I started Wendy House Wishes to sell my Wendy Houses and furniture to a broader audience. As word spread, so did our selection of products and designs, many of which came from requests (which we gladly provide) for custom painted pieces to match rooms or fabrics.

You can find a selection of our products here on our website. But we never forget our mission - To create magical places where children’s imaginations can take flight.
